Obituary: Mr. Jerry Earl Smith


 


Mr. Jerry Earl Smith of Wicksburg passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, at his home.  He was 82. 


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Buddy Hood officiating.  Interment will follow in the Goodwater Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until service time. 


Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made in Jerry’s honor to Wiregrass Gideons International. 


Mr. Smith was born April 8, 1941, in Houston County to the late Johnie Edward and Johnie Lucille Williams Smith. Jerry was a 1959 graduate of Rehobeth High School and served honorably in the Alabama National Guard for six years.  He owned and operated Smith Surveyors in Enterprise for many years and retired from the surveying industry after 50 years.  He was a member of the Wiregrass Gideons and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, gardening, and traveling to the mountains. Jerry was a loving husband, and adoring father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed. 


Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Clements Smith; daughter, Melinda Gayle Smith Yu (Chang); son, David Earl Smith (Tracy); stepson, Jim Darren Helms; grandchildren: Emma Claire Yu, Lauren Catherine Yu, Jacob David Smith, Caitlin Marie Smith, and Kellan James Helms; sister, Jeanette Smith Dean; niece, Rita Jeanette Dean; special friend, Shauna Woodard; other extended family and friends.
