OZARK… Mr. Jimmy “Jim” Browning, a resident of the Beamon Community, near Ozark, died late Wednesday morning, October 5, 2022, in Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery. He was 85.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joe Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in the Arguta Community. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.


            Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Paul Shipes, 909 CR 72, Ariton, Alabama 36311 or the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2, Dothan, Alabama 36303.


            Mr. Browning, son of the late Thuma Browning and Verna Mae Layne Browning, was a native of Ironton, Ohio. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. After his enlistment, Mr. Browning began working at Ft. Rucker as a mechanic and retired as an aircraft inspector after forty years employment. He enjoyed reading books and studying American History. Mr. Browning was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed camping at White Oak Creek on Lake Eufaula. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Browning and Elmer Eugene “Buddy” Browning.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-three years, Shirley Childree Browning, Beamon Community; his daughter, Sherrie Browning Nason (Frank), Suwanee, Georgia; his son, Terry Lee Browning (Barbara Bueno), Miami, Florida; his sister, Meriam Sue Gibson (Bob), Lexington, Kentucky; two brothers, Larry Browning (Nancy), Kitts Hill, Ohio and Ronnie Browning, Ironton, Ohio; step-granddaughter, Luyusha Nason; relatives from the Childree family, Patricia Memrick (Joe), Tallahassee, Florida and Owen Summerford, Midland City, Alabama.
