Mr. Jimmy Ray Kirkland, 65, of Cottonwood, passed away at his residence Tuesday, September 11, 2018, after a brief illness.

Graveside service will be at 12:00 pm Friday, September 14, 2018 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottonwood with Mr. Earl Sellers officiating and Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 11:00 am prior to the service on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL  36303.

Jimmy was born on April 27, 1953 to Harold “Shorty” and Essie Mae Kirkland in Houston County, AL.  He graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1971.  Jimmy was employed as a plumber and electrician with Jackson Gas for 38 years.  He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Cottonwood.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents, Ewell and Jane Bridges, and a brother Harold Kirkland, Jr.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Lisa (Tony) Hornsby of Reeltown and Wendy Kirkland (Haley Wiggins) of Lynn Haven, FL; 6 sisters Janie (Ed) Harmon of Dothan, JoAnn (Herb) Ruff of Mississippi, Kathy (Charles) Hunter of Cottonwood, Sue (Dale) Lee of Blountstown, FL, Lynda (Randy) Campbell of Cottonwood and Shirley (Tracy) Sanders of Andalusia; 3 brothers Albert (Starla) Kirkland of Dothan, Robert (Jane) Kirkland of Chatom, Danny (Kim) Kirkland of Cottonwood; half-sister Charlotte Vengard of South Florida; 3 grandchildren Kayli Rae, Kenzie and Jake Hornsby; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his Jackson Gas and Electric family.

A special thank you from the family to the staff of Kindred Hospice, especially to Lynda Campbell.
