Mr. John A. “Bill” Lewis, Jr. of Ashford died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at his residence. He was 97.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Watermark Church in Ashford with Reverend Todd Thorpe officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will be receiving friends at the church from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012, one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Lewis was born on March 16, 1915 in Geneva County, Alabama to John A. Lewis,Sr. and Perlison Saunders Lewis.
He graduated from Troy University and Auburn University, and taught school at Ashford High School for forty years. He also taught young adult Sunday school for many years. However, to all who met and knew him, his teaching never ended.
Mr. Lewis was truly a gem; such a gift to any and everyone who had the opportunity to meet and speak with him. We are so blessed that he touched all our lives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious wife of 70 years, Bennie Frank Lewis.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his children; John and Sheila Lewis of Ashford, AL; His grandchildren, Joe Lewis and his wife Susan; and Kelley Bouldin and her husband Jason.
Great grandchildren; Gracie and Skyler Lewis, Shaw, Ally, Conner and Ava. Also his and Bennie’s circle of friends who were truly their second family.
