John Allen Johnson, a resident of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Signature Health of Northwest Florida in Graceville, Florida. He was 89.


Graveside services for Mr. Johnson will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Gates of Heaven cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. 


Mr. Johnson was born November 8, 1931 in Brundidge, Pike County, Alabama to Savannah Gillis Johnson and Fred Lee Johnson also known as Bill Johnson. He received his early education in Pike County public school system. His family wanted a better life so they moved to Ashford, Houston County, Alabama. Mr. Johnson was raised in a Christian home and later in life joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He served in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Johnson worked in construction with Hollis and Spann for over 50 years and retired from Whiterock Construction owned by Woodrow Foster. He was married to Minnie McGhee Johnson on September 19, 2008. 


Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John Edward Johnson and Wayne Johnson, stepson, Marion “Punk” Morris; sister, Ruth Cochran and two brothers, Homer Johnson, Sr., and Fred Lee Johnson, Jr. 


He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Minnie McGhee Johnson; children, Wendell (Debbie) Smith, Rochester NY, Michael Johnson, Houston TX, Allen (Martha) Reeves, Alexander (Channie) Johnson, Charnette Johnson McClendon Bogar, Todd (Margie) Johnson, all of Dothan, AL; stepdaughter, Sharon (Ben) Booker, Midland City, AL; sister, Mabel Little, Ashford, AL; 24 grandchildren and a host of family and friends; special friend he loved like a brother, Woodrow Foster. 


May his memories be a blessing to those who loved him.
