Mr. John Simpler, Jr., a resident of Dothan, AL died April 22, 2013, at SAMC. He was 91.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Van Gauthe and Larry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

 

The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 1 to 3 P.M. Thursday, April 25, 2013. Flowers will be accepted.

 

John was born January 28, 1922 in Wicksburg, AL to the late Johnny and Ella Simpler. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dothan, The Dothan Masonic Lodge 466, The Scottish Rite, The York Rite, The Alcazar Shrine Club in Montgomery, The Alcazar Wiregrass Shrine Club and The Alcazar Trailbuster Go Cart Unit in Dothan. He served on The USS Alabama during World War II in The United States Navy.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Aubrey Simpler, three sisters, Mamie Hallford, Erin Peacock, and Eleanor Pitts, his son, Johnny Simpler and a daughter, Marsha Neil Simpler.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Nadine Simpler, a brother, Quincy Simpler, his daughter, Linda McDougald, three grandchildren, Chris Weed (Shawn), Jay Jay Roland (Ronnie), Dr. Jeremy Simpler (Jan); five great-grandchildren, Cole Norris, Connor Weed, Hannah Simpler, John Sawyer Parker and Wyatt Simpler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Pallbearers are Larry Flippo, Roger Simpler, Tommy Simpler, Ronnie Roland, Chris Weed, Jeremy Simpler, Jason Simpler and Cole Norris.

Honorary pallbearer is Charles Flippo.
