Joseph Rufus Strickland, 75, of Dothan, AL, died Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Clearman Chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Peacock and Reverend Mark Bristow         officiating. Burial will follow in Harper’s Joy Assembly of God Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the services and at other times will be at the home of the daughter.

Born in Houston County, AL, Joseph was a son of the late Joseph Quitman and Dovie Miller Strickland.  He worked with Swift Premium Meat Packing Company as a truck driver for 30 years and was employed with Jackson Gas and Electric Company and is a member of Hodgesville Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Todd Strickland; a brother, Hulon Strickland and two sisters, Iris Saltz and Nell Strickland.

Surviving are a son, Daniel Joseph Strickland, Independence, LA; a daughter and son-in-law, Caryn (Freddie) Jackson, Rehobeth, AL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James Franklin (Sandra) Strickland, Dothan, AL and Morris (Gwen) Strickland , Dothan, AL; three grandchildren, Cody Daniel Strickland, Justyn John Jackson and Caitlyn Nycole Jackson.
