   Mr. Lawson D. Spivey, Jr., age 80, of Ozark, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home Monday, January 22, 2024.


   Funeral services for Mr. Spivey will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2024 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Elder Larry Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Level Baptist Church Cemetery in Blue Springs, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.


   The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.


   Mr. Spivey was born July 13, 1943 in Louisville, Alabama to the late Lawson D. Spivey, Sr. and Dixie Merle Wilkinson Spivey. He was the oldest of eight children. He graduated from Blue Springs High School and continued on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Soil Science; and ultimately a Master’s Degree in Plant Pathology from Auburn University. Lawson went on to work with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a soil scientist, digital map analyst and supervisor. During his nearly thirty-year tenure with the USDA, Lawson lived and worked in multiple states and was stationed in Senegal, Africa and Indonesia. When he retired from the USDA, Lawson returned to his farm in Barbour County. Lawson enjoyed farming and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.


   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison Spivey.


   Lawson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Spivey of Ozark, Alabama; his son, Lawson D. Spivey, III and wife Stacey Denise Spivey of Charleston, West Virginia; his grandchildren, Lawson D. Spivey, IV and Logan Denise Spivey; his sisters, Reta Cordell of Graceville, Florida, Rhonda Willis (Johnny) of Dothan, Alabama, Jean Self (Tommy) of Texasville, Alabama and Katherine Price of Headland, Alabama; his brothers, Leslie Spivey (Alice) of Troy, Alabama, Michael “Donnie” Spivey (Nancy) of Clio, Alabama, and Martin Spivey (Ann) of Lafayette, Alabama; and a special brother, Tommy Self of Texasville, Alabama. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.


   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to Ozark Primitive Baptist Church, C/O Mrs. Betty Deloney, 1831 Lonnie Watson Road, Newton, Alabama 36352.
