Mr. Lurie Talmadge (Mac) McCallister on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, died at his residence at the age of 89.


 


Mr. McCallister was a member of the New Providence Baptist Church. He worked at Hedstrom for 35 years and also at Sammy McCallister Seafood.


 


Mr. McCallister was born on October 20, 1922, in Houston County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Gaston H. McCallister and Addie Dovie Simmons McCallister. Preceded in death his wife, Madell Brown McCallister, a daughter, Sarah Varnum, and a grandson, Marcus Varnum, and two sisters and two brothers.


 


He is survived by a daughter, Shirley M. Brown (Scott) of Slocomb, a son, Sammy L. McCallister (Delaine) of Slocomb, a son-in-law, Charles Varnum of Dothan, grandchildren, Marshelia Stark (Carl) of Florida, Misty M. Sorrells (Kevin) of Slocomb, Phillip Brown of Washington, D.C., five sisters, seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.


 


Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at New Providence Baptist Church in Slocomb with Reverends Charles Varnum and William Irwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, December 16, 2011. Flowers will be accepted.
