DOTHAN…Mr. Max O.  Bontrager, (TSgt., United States Air Force, Retired) a resident of Dothan, died Thursday morning, May 11, 2023, at the home of his granddaughter, Kayla. He was 86.


            In keeping with the wishes of the family, there are no services planned locally. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.


            Mr. Bontrager, son of the late Paul Omer Bontrager and Beatrice Bernice Metzger Bontrager, was a native of Elkhart, Indiana. He lived in various locations in the United States and overseas while serving in the United States Air Force. Mr. Bontrager retired from the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He formerly lived in Florida before moving to Alabama in 2020. Mr. Bontrager was preceded in death by four siblings.


            Surviving relatives include two children, Keith Bontrager (Pam) and Tammy Barna (Richard); two sisters, Barbara Bernice Bontrager and Sharon Miller; three brothers, Paul Bontrager, Maurice Bontrager, and Gene Bontrager; several grandchildren, including, Kayla Lemire (David) and Shanna Birdwell.
