NEWTON…. Mr. Muriel Glenn, a resident of Newton, died Thursday evening, January 21, 2021 at his home. He was 95.


            Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 25, 2021 in Newton City Cemetery with Reverend Shane Traylor officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. The family requests that all attendees honor COVID-19 protocols by wearing masks and use social distancing.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Newton Baptist Church, PO Box 97, Newton, AL 36352.


            Mr. Glenn, son of the late Walter J. Glenn and Lela Outlaw, was a native of Dale County, near the Center Ridge Community in Ariton. He moved to Newton in May 1955 where he was active in Community development. Mr. Glenn was a founding member of the Newton Ruritan Club and served as the first President of the club. He served on the Southeast Alabama Regional Health Authority (SARHA) for over thirty years and was a member of Newton Masonic Lodge #224. Mr. Glenn was a member of Newton Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for over thirty years and was currently Deacon emeritus. He was retired from Civil Service at Fort Rucker as the Fire Inspector. Mr. Glenn was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter, Kate Wells; three sisters, Vivian Hines, Inez Hines, and Vonnie Danner; three brothers, Cecil Glenn, Jay Glenn, and Ralph Glenn.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Scott Glenn, Newton; two sons, Michael Glenn (Debbie), Montgomery and Daniel Glenn (Susan), Hartford; brother-in-law, Dean Scott (Barbara), Ozark; granddaughter, Danielle Montoya (Matthew); great-granddaughter, Meredith Anne Montoya; step-grandson, Nathan Brannon; step-great-grandson, Joshua Wells, Spencer, Kobi,  and Aubrey; step-great-great-granddaughter, Ester.
