Mr. Norman Baxley of Newton passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 at his home. He was 74 years old.


Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 14, 2020 in Newton City Cemetery with Pastor Michael Senn and Pastor William Irwin officiating. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm.


Mr. Baxley was born on March 1, 1946 in Midland City, Alabama to the late Benjamin (Ben) and Hilda Baxley. He married Sandra Faye Fincher on November 2, 1985. Mr. Baxley worked in the construction industry driving a dump truck for numerous companies for over 35 years. He adored his family and his fur babies. Mr. Baxley enjoyed being outside gardening and tending to his fruit trees. On Saturdays, he loved to cheer on the Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Marchman, his mother-in-law, Grace (Granny) Fincher, and his brothers-in-law, Jim Young and William (Bill) Fincher.


Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Faye Baxley of Newton, AL; his sons, Brock (Paula) Baxley of Rehobeth, AL, James (Jenise) Arrington of Ariton, AL; his daughter, Allison (Edward) Holmes of Lee County; his grandchildren, Tyler Baxley of Newnan, GA, Summer (Nicholas) Arrington Adkins of Newton, Parker Arrington of Newton, Eric Gardner (Sarah) of Ariton, Cody Arrington of Ariton, Kimberly (Steven) Gaines of Lee County, and Edward (Misty) Holmes of Lee County; his great-grandchildren; his fur babies, Rosie, Lacie, and Taffy; his sisters, Becky (Derril) Speller of Newton, AL and Kim Baxley of Tallahassee, FL; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Marchman of Dothan, AL; his special sister-in-law, Pamela (Anne) Young of Columbus, GA; his niece and nephews, Todd Marchman, Nicole Boyce, and Aaron Cartes, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Brock Baxley, Tyler Baxley, James Arrington, Parker Arrington, Cody Arrington, and Todd Marchman and serving as honorary pallbearers will be Derrill Speller and Nicholas Adkins.
