Obituary: Mr. Rex Rolan Barnes


 


Mr. Rex Rolan Barnes of Enterprise passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Signature Health Care of North Florida in Graceville.  He was 88. 


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.  on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Mynatt officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.  Interment will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery. 


The family will receive friends Wednesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. 


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Mr. Barnes memory with your contributions to Gideons International, PO Box 97251 Washington, DC 20090-7251. 


Mr. Barnes was born June 20, 1930 in Coffee County to the late George Robert and Myrtle Russell Barnes.  Rex was a lifelong resident of the Enterprise area, excluding four years he spent in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  He worked at Ft. Rucker as an Avionics Technician for many years; and along with his late wife, owned and operated the Christian Bookstore in Enterprise for 40 years. 


In addition to his parents, his wife, Nell Barnes; and four brothers: Charles, Hulon, Earl, and Billy Barnes all preceded him in death. 


Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Butler (Bobby), Defuniak Springs, FL; three sons: David Barnes, Enterprise, Ronnie Barnes (Georgeann), Enterprise, and Rustin Barnes (Jasmine), Troy; grandchildren: Kimra Smith (Josh), Kristen Gilley, Jerid Barnes (Shana), Megan Bronson (Hunter), Michelle Lolley, Beth Carroll (Alan), and Morgan Barnes; seven great grandchildren; sister, JoAnn Stone, Enterprise; sister-in-law, Kay Barnes, Enterprise; stepsister, Juanita Mullen, Princeton, KY;  other extended family and friends.
