Mr. Richard Irvin Shepard, age 84, a resident of Dothan, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at his residence.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Cloverdale Baptist Church in Dothan with Reverends Dennis Singletary and Allen Bryan officiating.  Entombment will follow with Military Honors at Memory Hill Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing.


The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. at Cloverdale Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions may be made to Building Fund at Cloverdale Baptist Church, 806 Dexter St., Dothan, AL. 36301 or to the Wiregrass Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Dothan, AL. 36302.


Mr. Shepard was born on May 16, 1934 in Wayland, New York the son of Allen Alden Shepard and Florence Deiter Shepard.  During his early years he worked with his father in the welding fabrication business and then at age 18 he entered the U.S. Army.  He served 9 years with U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Mr. Shepard retired after 39 years as Air Traffic Control supervisor at Cairnes Field in Ft. Rucker.  He attended several colleges and universities and graduated Magna Cumlaude from Troy University after receiving 2 degrees.  Mr. Shepard was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church for 50 years.


He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Debra Shepard, and a sister, Barbara.


Survivors include: wife, Lisa Casassa Shepard, Dothan; son, Stephen Shepard (Lisa Gilbert), Dothan; 2 step-sons, Christopher Riley (Tierney), Cottonwood; Joseph Riley (Telesia), Dothan; sister, Patricia Larkin (Paul), Rochester, N.Y.; 2 brothers, Bill Shepard (Elaine), Wayland, N.Y. and Dave Shepard (Scott Allen), Rochester, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, 4.5 great-grandchildren.


Active pallbearers will be: Stephen Shepard, Christopher Riley, Joseph Riley, Danny Johnson, Bradley Riley, Johnny Bryan, and Ryder Riley.


Honorary pallbearers will be Retirees of ARAC at Ft. Rucker’s Cairns Field.
