Mr. Robert C. Saunders of Pensacola, FL, formerly of Samson, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012.  He was 78.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Donal Walsingham officiating.  Burial will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

 Mr. Saunders was born in Samson, AL on August 10, 1934 to the late Coy Robert and Dessie Mae Owens Saunders.  He retired from US Air National Guard after 24 years of service.  He was preceded in death by his son, Kyle Saunders. 

 He is survived by his life companion, Rita Callaway of Pensacola; son, Kevin Saunders (Cyndi)  of Samson; daughter, Kara Todd (Curtis) of Dothan; five grandchildren, Kyle Saunders, Chelsea Saunders, Megan Saunders, Michael Fortune and Jessie Fortune; great grandson, Collin Saunders; sister, Jeannie Bryan (Gary) of Level Plains; and niece Callie Evans (Wesley).
