Stanley E. “Jake” Jones, Jr., a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, December 27, 2018 at his home following a brief illness. He was 90.

 

Celebration of Life services for Mr. Jones will be held at 3 PM Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Evergreen Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Joseph Johnson and Reverend Ashley Drake Mertz officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 PM until 2:45 PM at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, 1103 N. Pontiac, Dothan, AL 36303.

 

Jake was born in Pensacola, Florida on March 10, 1928 but grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from Lanier High School, spent two years in the military serving in the 11^th Airborne Division before entering Auburn University. He graduated from Auburn with a degree in Industrial Management and worked one year before marrying Martha Jo Sorrells from Dothan.

 

Jake and Martha Jo moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where Jake started a 29 year career with Container Corporation of America. They lived in Muskogee, Memphis, Chicago and Valley Forge before retiring as Vice President and General Manager of the Eastern Division of the company.

 

They moved to Dothan in 1983 where Jake worked with Julian Turner in the Real Estate business and later became the General Manager of Dothan Warehouse. He was involved in several other business interests in Dothan before his death. Jake was a longtime member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church.

 

Jake always enjoyed golf with the Church and Fish Golf Group, hunting and fishing in God’s great outdoors. He also cherished time spent with his four grandsons.

 

Jake is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley E. Jones, Sr and Adelaide Proctor Jones; wife, Martha Jo Jones; son, James Rush Jones; sister, Jeanette Lemmon.

 

Survivors include his son, Stan Jones (Julie); grandsons, Turner Jones (Mary Olivia), David Jones (Claire), Stanley Jones IV and Rush Jones; great grandsons, Tee Jones and Asa Jones; sister, Elaine Patton; sister in law, Mary Rush Embry (Bob) and several nieces and nephews.
