 Stanley Thomas “Stan” Smith



 Mr. Stanley Thomas “Stan” Smith, a resident of Ozark, went to be with his Lord Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the age of 67.


   Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 25, 2022, from the First Ozark United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Jason Thrower and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.


   The family will receive friends Wednesday in the church from 9:30 A.M. until service time. Stan was born on September 13, 1954 in Troy, AL and was raised in Samson, AL. Stan married the love of his life, Lisa Gammill on December 27, 1975. They moved to Birmingham where Stan graduated from Samford University with a degree in pharmacy. Afterwards, he was a long time owner and operator of Mattox Drugs Company in Ozark, AL, and also served the people of Dale County as a pharmacist for over 40 years. He and his family were long time members of Ozark First United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous boards, committees, and was chair of Men’s Breakfast Club. He was a member of Ozark Rotary Club, where he served as president and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an avid fan of all things Auburn University, especially football. In his free time he loved to cook, golf, hunt, and fish, but above all else, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.


   He was preceded in death by his parents Ken and June Smith of Samson, AL.


   He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Lisa Gammill Smith of Ozark, AL; his three children, Judge Stuart K. Smith of Ozark, AL, MST1 David O. Smith, United States Coast Guard (Galen) of Portland, Maine, Dr. Sara-Bethany S. Weir (Dr. Connor Weir) of East Lansing, MI; his four grandchildren, Holton Smith, Guy Smith, Hooper Smith, and Camden Smith; his brother, Phil Smith of Tallahassee, FL; brother-in-law, Bill Gammill (Kathy) of Enterprise, AL; sister-in-law, Nancy Sherrer of Panama City, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.


   The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or First Ozark United Methodist Church, Kingsley Christian Learning Center, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, AL 36360.
