Obituary: Mr. Thomas A. “Tom” Parker


 


Mr. Thomas A. “Tom” Parker of Malvern went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Southeast Health after a short and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 77. 


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Hosea Parker and Rev. Don Irwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Fadette Pentecostal Ministries Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. 


Mr. Parker was born September 10, 1946 in Hoopeston, Illinois to the late Paul and Helen Cordes Parker. Tom left his home in Hoopston to pursue a military career. While stationed in Ft. Rucker, Tom met the love of his life, Linda. Tom and Linda married October 27, 1967 and settled to raise their family in Malvern, AL. Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Aside from his family, he was most proud of his twenty-one-year tenure with the United States Army. During this time Tom served in Vietnam, and was stationed in Kentucky, Texas, and Germany. 


In addition to his parents, his sister, Susie Henning all from Illinois preceded him in death. 


Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Linda Parker, Malvern; daughters: Teresa Gunn (Charlie), Slocomb, and Tammy Scott (Jesse), Malvern; granddaughters: Leanna Corbin and Jayde Pope (Clay); grandson, Jesse Scott Jr.; great grandchildren: Waylon and Charlee Pope; other extended family and friends.
