Walt Covington, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at his residence. He was 62.

Services for Walt will be held at 2 PM Sunday, August 12, 2012 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverend Dennis Singletary officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the; American Cancer Society, ATTN: Memorial Chair, 134 Quarrles Court, Ozark, AL 36360.

Walt was born March 14, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama to Walter Perry Covington, Sr. and Lena Ruth Lee Covington. He joined the United States Coast Guard and fought in the Vietnam War where he received the Presidential Citation Award. Walt worked for and retired from the United States Army Corps of Engineers after 34 years of service. He was an avid musician that loved to sing, play the guitar and keyboard. Walt was a devoted husband, father and loved spending time with family.

Walt is survived by his wife, Debbie Covington, Dothan; children, Shon Covington (Lorie), Lincoln, NE, Ian McCoy (Meredyth), Austin, TX, Summer Leifer (Jeff), Augusta, GA, Colleen Bade (Paul), Hickman, NE; 11 grandchildren; mother and father in law, Van and June Vance; two brothers, David Covington, Danny Covington, five sisters, Chuckie Williamson, Golda McAndrew, Evalyn Aldridge, Linda Melton, Lori Goodwyn, brother in law, Danny Vance; two sisters in law, Vanessa Lynn Roberts, Vanette Vance, several nieces and nephews.
