“Gentlemen, start your engines!” William Joseph (Billy Joe) McBride, finished his race on this earth on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the age of 68.


He was a son, brother, father, uncle, cousin and Papa Joe to those who loved him. Billy Joe lived his life passionate about his Jesus, his family, the Crimson Tide, and Dale and Junior. He was a 1973 graduate of Dothan High School and attended Georgia Military Academy. Billy Joe also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.


He is preceded in death by his father, Derritt Dixon (Billy) McBride and his brother, Robert Luther McBride.


Those surviving include his mother, Thera Jordan (Boots) McBride, his two sons, Matthew (Amanda) McBride and Ethan (Marcy) McBride and their children, Garrett, Bailey, Peyton, Maddison, Kelsey, Emileigh and Cullen. Survivors also include his sister, Barbara (Johnny) Cook and brother, Andrew McBride and nephews and niece, Jordan (Bo) Cook, Katy Lewis, Colby (Helen) Cook, Andrew McBride, and Forest (Arianna) McBride and great nephews and niece, Connor Sherbert, Cora Beth Lewis and Emmett Lau-Cook. He was also blessed with many loving cousins and dear friends.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from the chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Brother Mike Downs officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.


Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Sellers, Frank Sellers, Jamie Tillman, David Palmer, Garrett McBride, and Peyton McBride. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Brookins, Bruce Aldridge, and Jimmy Nall.
