Willie Gene “W.G.” Barnes, of Dothan, formerly of Cottonwood, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at his residence. He was 80.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Rev. John Smith and Rev. Karl Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Howard Grove Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Cottonwood, AL. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 PM prior to the service.


Mr. Barnes was born July 1, 1931 in Houston County to William and Lois Love Barnes. He was a 1949 graduate of Cottonwood High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Hayes Aircraft for 31 years prior to his retirement.


Mr. Barnes is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Candace Barnes.


Survivors include his wife, Helen Floyd Barnes, Dothan; four daughters, Sarah Crooms (Rodney), Ashford, Debra Edge (Terry), Dothan, Sonja Real (Doug), Hunstville, Jeanie Talley (Richard), Dothan; two sons, Troy Barnes (Sheila), Anniston, Keith Barnes (Donna), Ozark; 10 grandchildren, Troy Barnes, Jr. (Tracy), Robert Lucas Tice, Trevor Edge, Chip Crooms (Shelley), Jodi Crooms Scott (John), Angel Barnes Boyd (James), Galen Olive-Talley Smith (David), Hayden Olive-Talley, Emma Claire Talley, Katie Talley; 10 great grandchildren.
