Woodrow Wilson Herring, Jr a resident of Cottonwood, Alabama was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 22, 2023. He was 80.

Graveside Services will be held at 1PM, Monday, November 27, 2023 in New Harmony Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Tommy White officiating and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Woodrow was born to the late Woodrow, Sr and Othel Danford Herring on May 30, 1943. He was a 1961 graduate of Cottonwood High School and shortly after graduating, served his country in the United States Air Force. After returning home, he attended Troy University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business. He worked for the State of Alabama in the pensions and security department and for several other businesses during his career. He loved reading, walking, and being in the outdoors. On any given afternoon, he could be found on his front porch reading a book or his bible. He was a devoted son, helping take care of his mother during her last years as she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Most of all he loved his family, always inquiring about every grandchild’s latest ballgame or educational endeavors. They were his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Angelin Herring.

Left to cherish his memories are a son, Woodrow Wilson Herring III (Cindy), Jasper, Alabama; two brothers, Ronnie Herring (Belinda), Dothan, Alabama and Phillip Herring (Dianne), Cottonwood, Alabama; one sister, Phyllis Jenkins (Brent), Lagrange, Georgia; three grandchildren, Will, Anna Katherine, and Drew, Jasper, Alabama along with many nieces and nephews.
