Mrs. Betty June Johnston, age 84, of Newville, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in Ozark.


Born November 26, 1936 in Henry County to the late Anderson Tate and Pearl Smothers Tate, Betty enjoyed sewing and crocheting and worked as a seamstress at Wextex for many years. She was also a fabulous cook and will be remembered for her cornbread and divinity among many other specialties.


In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Poss” Johnston; her daughter, Lori Lynn Johnston; and her brother, Dewey Tate.


She is survived by her daughter, Angie Pierce (Michael); her son, Mark Johnston (Sheila); her grandchildren, David Pierce (Stacy), Matthew Johnston (Katie), Kyle Pierce (Kristen), Kaylie York (Ryan); her three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dianne Hodges and Nancy Luhn; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 8, 2021 at Wesley Chapel in the Echo Community. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM, prior to the service.
