Burnell Hall Richardson, age 92 of Ariton, Alabama passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on October 16, 2021 at Southeast Health after a brief illness.  Burnell had a special wish to have a private graveside service with her children only present.  The service and entombment is planned for a to be named date at the Ariton Cemetery in Ariton, Alabama, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.


Burnell was born in Edwin, Alabama on August 2, 1929 to the late Wade and Frances Hall.  She graduated from Ariton High School in 1948 and remained active with her class arranging the class reunions throughout the years.  She was a devout Christian and was a long-time member of the Ariton Baptist Church.  After high school she met and then married James Esker Richardson on August 27, 1951 and went on to have 3 children that were the love of her life.  She always had dreams to be a nurse because of her compassion for others but because of her love and selfless devotion to her children, she became a career long mother and wife.  It was as a mother that she taught her children the values of commitment, work, and unconditional love. She was always at her best when caring and helping others. She had a love of flower gardens and tirelessly worked in her yards. She had a green thumb for ferns that was well known over.  Her favorite shows on TV were Judge Judy and QVC with Susan Graver. She loved to watch Alabama football games and had a deep love and compassion for her multiple animals she was mother to throughout her life.


Burnell is preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Frances Hall; her husband of 64 years, James Esker Richardson; two sisters, Lillian Barefield and Eloise Cooper; and one brother, Charles Hall.


She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Brenda Richardson of Memphis, TN;  two sons, Jeff Richardson and Keith Richardson of Ariton, AL; two sisters-in-law, Doris Richardson of Ariton, AL, and Mavis Jenkins of Dothan, AL; her brother-in-law Charles Cooper of Ozark;  and numerous nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ozark-Dale County Humane Society, P. O. Box 2502, Ozark, AL  36360; or a charity of choice.
