Mrs. Carolyn Irene Roney Deal of Rehobeth, departed this life and went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 13, 2012.


Celebration of Life Services will be held at Rehobeth Baptist Church today at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Travis Free and Reverend Wallace Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Big Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to the service. Flowers are accepted or Memorial contributions may be made to the Rehobeth Baptist Church Building Fund, 4444 South County Road 59, Dothan, Alabama 36301.


Mrs. Deal was born in Houston County, Alabama on May 5, 1931 to the late Will Roney and Ethel Redding Roney. She lived her early life in the Greenfront and Ashford Communities and graduated from Ashford High School. She enjoyed being a homemaker and served as a teacher’s aide at Rehobeth High School for many years. She was a very devoted member of Rehobeth Baptist Church where she was actively involved in the church choir and the senior adult ministry. She also faithfully served in many other areas at church during her lifetime.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Joe Henry Deal; one grandson, Michael Andrew Whitehead; one brother, Herbert Eugene Roney; and one sister, Sue Roney Bailey.


Surviving relatives include one son, Phillip (Debby) Deal, Rehobeth; two daughters, Lori Deal, Dothan; Kathy (Will) Whitehead, Cottonwood; five grandchildren, Matt Deal, Dothan; Hallie (Dustin) Wilson, Kingsport, Tennessee; Anna Turner, Cottonwood; Ben Whitehead and Katherine Whitehead, Cottonwood and three great grandchildren, Parker Turner and Mattox and Keaton Deal; two sisters, Betty (Walton) Barber, Crestview, FL; Nell (Lowell) Centers, Marianna, FL; two brothers, Will Roney, Jr. (Nina), Dothan, Sammy Roney (Charlene) Dothan; She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Bailey, Jeff Barber, Greg Centers, Matt Deal, Johnny Frank Martin, Terry Parrish, Bobby Thomley, and Ben Whitehead.


“Nanny” as she was affectionately referred to by her grandchildren, had a special gift of joy, shown through her constant smiles and laughter. She lived an unselfish life and proclaimed her faith in Jesus wherever she went. She was an inspiration to many and will be greatly missed.
