Carolyn Juanita Carpenter Hughes, age 86, of Dothan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2021 surrounded by her family.
Carolyn was born in 1935 in Elba, Alabama to the late Fred and Idalia Whitman Carpenter. She and her husband of 68 years, Charles Wilton Hughes, resided in Elba, Alabama, Albany, Georgia, and Americus, Georgia before settling in Dothan to raise their family. She retired from the City of Dothan where she worked in data processing and the Dothan Police Department. Carolyn was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, spending time in the swing, serving with her husband on a variety of committees at Southside Baptist Church and loving her family.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wilton Hughes; her son, Marty Hughes; her brother, Ben Carpenter; and her sister, Betty Carlile.
Her family consists of her daughters, Patti Williamson (Benny) and Susan Miller (Lamar); her son, Scott Hughes (Donna); her grandchildren, Brad Davis (Kimberly), Morgan Williamson, Brittney Phillips (Bryant), Haley Hughes, Hannah Hughes, and Olivia Hughes; her great-grandchildren, Brodie Phillips, Bailey Phillips, Brayden Phillips, and Charles Michael Davis (November 2021).
The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM, Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Southside Baptist Church in Dothan with a service to follow at 11 AM in the sanctuary with Reverend Stacey Stafford officiating. The family will also have a graveside service at 2 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Elba, Alabama.
