Mrs. Catherine McClain Spence Mackie Peters passed away on Sunday, July 31st, 2022. She was 86 years old.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Peters will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 P.M. Saturday, August 13, 2022, one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Peters was born the eldest of seven children to the late Harry Mackey and Annie Mexzies Mackie on December 19th, 1935 in Glasgow Scotland. Being an adventurous soul, she immigrated to the United States of America at the age of 26, where she met and married the love of her life, Mr. Eugene “Gene” Peters. They were blessed to share a love for 47 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene in 2010. Having left school at a young age to care for her mother, she yearned to return and finish her schooling. She did just that at the age of 35 when she received her diploma. She instilled a love of knowledge and a joy of reading in her children and grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for her love of reading a good book.

Mrs. Peters was a volunteer at Southeast Alabama Medical Center for many years and was well known among the staff for her deep Scottish accent.

She is survived by her four children, Kevin Peters, Shaaron Peters Casey, Shona “Cricket” Peters, and Keith Peters and numerous grandchildren.

She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
