Deanna "Dee" Smith Russell, known for her role as the Manager of the Jr. Food Store in Newton, has passed away at the age of 55. Born on December 22, 1967, in Newton, Alabama, Deanna was a beloved member of her community, leaving behind cherished memories with her family and friends.
      Deanna’s education was an important part of her life. In 1987, she graduated from Daleville High School and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Wallace Community College. This foundation of knowledge helped Deanna excel in her career as a manager, where she dedicated herself to providing excellent service to the customers of Jr. Food Store.
     Beyond her professional accomplishments, Deanna’s true joy came from spending time with those she loved. She had a heart full of love and cared deeply for her family and friends. Her warm and compassionate personality touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Deanna had a passion for sports and enjoyed cheering on the University of Alabama football team. She also had a deep love for Atlanta Braves baseball and never missed an opportunity to catch a game. These hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to connect with others who shared her enthusiasm.
      Deanna will forever be remembered by those who survive her: her mother June McKnight Russell of Newton, Alabama; sister Judith Howard and Doug of Newton, Alabama; niece Kimmie Howard; nephew Justin Howard and his wife Candace; great nephews Bentley, Tucker and Tegan; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her father Clifton Smith and step-father Earl Russell.
     To honor Deanna’s life, visitation services will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Newton First Assembly of God Church with her cousin Raina McAlister officiating. Deanna will be laid to rest alongside her loved ones at Newton City Cemetery, Killebrew St in Newton, Alabama.
      In this time of sorrow and remembrance, let us celebrate the life of Deanna Smith Russell and hold dear the memories we shared with her. May she rest in eternal peace.
