Diana L. Smith, of Dothan, AL passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at her home, from complications associated with ongoing health issues. She was 82 years old.


A private funeral mass will be held at a later date.


Diana was born in Detroit, MI, on July 27, 1938 to the late Alphonse Kucinski and Lillian (Strzelecki) Kucinski-Davis. She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School and attended Marygrove College. On June 20, 1959, she married John D. Smith, and they remained together for more than 61 years. After living in many different areas of the Midwest, they settled in Traverse City, MI to raise their family.


Diana retired from Farm Bureau Insurance Company of Michigan after 28 years, and eventually she and her husband moved to Dothan. She was a member of Quota Club and St. Columba Catholic Church. She was an avid reader. She loved to travel, play piano, and attend a variety of musical performances.


Diana is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Kenneth Kucinski. She is survived by her husband, sister, Corinne Ellis, three children, Kevin Smith (Noreen Hodgins) of Chicago, IL, Kathleen (Michael) Ziglar of Dothan, AL, and Karen (Bruce) Abney of Waterford, WI. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Craig Lautenschlager, Amy (Drew) Blazo, Eric (Sarah) Abney, Megan Smith, Melanie (Allyson) Smith, Madison Smith, Carmen Ziglar Hamm (Jason Currie), Kayla (Lucas) Davis, and seven great-grandchildren.
