Ms. Doris L. Bodiford Fulton Sowell passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the home of her grandson in Mobile, Alabama with her family by her side. She was 85.



Doris was born September 18, 1938 in Houston County, Alabama, the daughter of the late Sandy Lavester and Eurace Bodiford.



Doris worked in her younger years at Columbia Blouse, Wex -Tex, and retired from Cook Receipt Book. She was a graduate of Ashford High School.



She loved her family and enjoyed going on picnics, and spending time at the beach. She always had fun when she and her sisters would go out.



She loved her church and singing in the choir, but the last year or so was not able to attend the way she wanted.
She enjoyed the Ladies Group and having yard sales and fundraisers.



She stayed in touch with all her friends through facebook and prayed constantly for those that requested it. Doris loved the friendship with Tinker and Buddy Danford, especially the time they ate oysters off the back of Buddys truck in downtown Ashford.



She loved looking our her window at her birds and loved her fur baby Ellie Grace.



Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Union Springs Freewill Baptist Church with Reverends Terry Drinkwater, John Taylor, and S.E. Newberry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.



The family will receive friends at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 6 to 8 P.M.



Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, John Stanley Fulton, Bobby Sowell, and sisters, Velma Coulter, Mary Ketchum (Ellis) and Wilma Dixon (Roy).



She is survived by her daughters Stephanie Jenkins (Gary), Kellie Free (Greg), brother Robert Sowell, grandchildren Andrew Bynum (Rhea), Garrison Jenkins, Bailey Ethridge, Olivia Ethridge (Issac), great-grandchildren Callie Faith Bynum, Ben Benefield, life long friend Helen Parish, and a special, special fur baby Ellie Grace.



Serving as pallbearers will be Garrison Jenkins, John Wright, Don Knight, Eddie Earl McCarter, David Brunson, Ronnie Johnson, Reverend Darrell Newberry and Bailey Ethridge.
