Mrs. Ethel M. Thames Benway of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Samson, Alabama passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015. She was 89.


Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Richard Thorn and Rev. Dwain Hicks officiating.  Burial will follow in the Liberty Chapel Baptist Church with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continue until service time.


Mrs. Benway was born August 25, 1925, to the late Sherman and Gipsie Powell Thames.  She was a member of Abundant Life Church in Samson for a number of years.



In addition to her parents, her husband, Arthur Benway, two grandsons, Joseph Arthur Wahlman and Chris Benton, a son-in-law, Joe Wahlman, and a daughter-in-law, Maelease Benton, as well as seven siblings: Bethel Taylor, Mary West, Tom, Lee, Bill, Bob and Louie Thames all preceded her in death.


Survivors include six children: Sharon (Warren) Keim, Patricia Wahlman, Ron Benton, Bill (SunHui) Benton, Kim (Matt) South and Art (Jonna) Benway; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
