Obituary:  Mrs. Evie Bell Baxley


 


 


 


            Mrs. Evie Bell Baxley of Slocomb passed away Friday, December 30, 2011 at her home.  She was 90.


 


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012 in New Teamon Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Chorn and Rev. Dicky McAllister officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Mrs. Baxley will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Teamon Baptist Church Building Fund, 3813 S. County Road 85, Slocomb, AL 36375.


 


            The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.


 


            Evie was born on February 17, 1921 to the late Andrew Louis and Sally Stokes Bell.  She was a faithful member of New Teamon Baptist Church for over 70 years where she served in various capacities including Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher, and church clerk.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, married to her husband, Harold, for 42 years before his death in 1982.


 


She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Baxley; her parents; two sisters, Velma Peavy and Ruth Williams; and two brothers, Lee Bell and Zack Bell.


 


She is survived by her children:  Daisy Wilkerson (Lynvol) of Graceville; Howell Baxley (Lounell), Tommy Baxley (Dianne), and Duane Baxley (Margaret) all of Slocomb; Greg Baxley (Paula) of Tuscaloosa; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law:  Flora Register (Louis) of Slocomb, Nora Edgerton of Gracevile, Juanita Cruce of Tallahassee; one brother-in-law:  George Baxley of Slocomb; many nieces and nephews; and one dear friend, Mrs. Gladys Bass.
