Mrs. Flora Cook Kirkland of Dothan died Sunday, April 1, 2012. She was 79.


 


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Taylor Assembly of God Church with Reverend Kenneth Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends at the church from 1 to 2 P.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302.


 


Mrs. Kirkland was born April 24, 1932, in Houston County, Alabama, the last surviving child of the late William J. and Delia Cook. She was a charter member of the Taylor Assembly of God Church. Her proudest moment of her life was writing poems, and a book of poems published “An Uplift In Troublesome Times.” She loved her family dearly.


 


She is preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and three sisters.


 


Survivors include her husband, Vernon Kirkland of Dothan; daughter, Debbie Ward and her husband, Ricky of Jakin, GA; sons, David Kirkland and his wife, Sara of Dothan; Willie Kirkland of Dothan; Beth Kirkland, mother of his children, half-sister, Erie Godwin of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Chris (Dana) Kirkland, Courtney (Gene) Redahan, Candace Kirkland, Shannon (Mike) Watkins all of Dothan; Dustin (Sheri) Ward and Holly Ward of Jakin, GA; eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other family members.
