Grace Burdeshaw Shelley Halstead, 95, of Dothan, Alabama, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Memphis Baptist Church with Reverend Rick Glenn and Dr. Mack Morris officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday prior to the services. At other times the family will be at the home of a daughter, Retha Mercer.

 

Born in Houston County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Coolidge and Docia Kornegay Burdeshaw.  She was a graduate of the Campbell’s Business College and a homemaker. She is a member of Memphis Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for fifty plus years and was a member of the Faithful Sunday School Class and the Joyful Christians. She loved to travel with AARP group and the WMU.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memphis Baptist Church Building Fund, 4595 Eddins Road, Dothan, AL  36305.

 

Grace was preceded in death by her husbands, Owen Otho Shelley in 1978 and William Dewey Halstead in 1991.

 

Surviving are a son, Sidney O. Shelley, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; three daughters and sons-in-law, Priscilla (Joe Phil) Armstrong, Ashford, AL, Kathy (Mack) Morris, Mobile, AL, and Retha Mercer, Dothan, AL; a sister-in-law, Abbie Jean Burdeshaw, Graceville, Fl;  twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
