Mrs. Gracie Mae Cook, age 88, of Andalusia, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022.


Born May 1, 1934 in Covington County to the late Austin Lee Carter and Lillie Gonion Carter, Gracie was the manager of the James Store in Opp for many years before it closed its doors.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Wambles and Damon Cook; her daughter, Rhonda Wambles; her brothers, Calvin Carter, Fred Carter, and James Carter; and her sisters, Madge Stewart, Ann Adams, and Doris Starkey.


Survivors include her son, Eddie Wambles; her grandchildren, Jeni Bryant (David) and Miki Grant; her great-grandchildren, Aiden Bryant, Marie Bryant, Jackson Bryant, Tristan Maytorena and Lily Maytorena; her brother, Donnie Carter; and her sister, Nellene Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Oakey Ridge Baptist Church in Andalusia with Pastor Larry Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service at the church.
