Obituary: Mrs. Hazel Jeanette Hughes


 


Mrs. Hazel Jeanette Hughes of Chancellor, Alabama passed away during the early morning hours of October 21, 2021 at her home. She was 85.


Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Union Grove Baptist Church 2525 Co. Rd. 643 Chancellor, AL, with Brother Kevin Kelley and Brother Randall Pearson officiating. Interment will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 


The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time. Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 with memorial ID # 22629926. 


Hazel was born in Coffee County on December 6, 1935 to the late James Arthur and Mattie Pearl Tucker Grimes. She married at a younger age to the love of her life, Alvie D. Hughes and spent the early years of her life devoted to taking care of her children and husband. Her greatest joy was being with her family. After retirement she and her husband loved to travel to Nashville to see the Grand Ole Opry. They loved to find places that they could hear good Blue Grass music. They enjoyed gathering with their family to celebrate special occasions and taking family trips. Hazel spent a great deal of time in taking care of her love Alvie in his last few years. 


In addition to her parents Mrs. Hazel was preceded in death by: her husband of 64 years, Alvie D. Hughes, brothers; Harold Grimes and Dewey Howell Grimes, a daughter in law, Eunice Hughes, and two great grandchildren Austin and Miranda Adams. 


Survivors include: daughters; Carolyn Tidwell (Johnny), Teresa Donaldson (Van), and Janet Carnley (Leroy), her sons; Hayward Hughes and David Hughes (Theresa), grandchildren; Selena Johns (Clay Jester), Gary Adams, Christina Gilbert (Elijah), Greg Adams (Torie), Scott Hughes, Corey (Cortney) Hughes, Michael (Christy) Hughes, Tenisha Tuncer (Turgay), Tasha Cantrell (David), Dustin Tidwell (Lucenda), Justin Donaldson (Jill), Kyle Donaldson (Sara), Janae Fontaine (Doug), Jake Carnley (Jennifer Jenkins), Landon Carnley, Levi Carnley, 24 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren.


The family would like to thank SouthernCare Hospice for the love and care shown to Mrs. Hazel during this time.
