Janie O. Ward, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday February 19, 2012 at her residence. She was 84.


Funeral services for Mrs. Ward will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Russell and Rev. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 21, 2011 from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to: Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 3257 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301.


Mrs. Ward was born to the late F.M. and Casey Marell Owens, February 24, 1927 in Geneva County, Alabama. She was a dedicated Christian, wife, mother, mother in law and grandmother. Mrs. Ward loved God first and family second. Her house was always open to everyone no matter what time, day or night. She was a member of Bethel Baptist and enjoyed sewing and gardening.


Mrs. Ward is preceded by her husband, Y.Z. Ward; daughter, Jeanette Ward and grandson, Michael Haines.


Mrs. Ward is survived by her children, Ron Ward, (Donna), Dothan, Dave Ward (Sue), Columbia, Greg Ward (Maritza), Honduras, Joy Haines, Dothan, Gaye Steffes (Richard), Ft. Walton Beach; 14 grandchildren, Ronnie Ward (Jerri), Angela Dunning (Mark), Randy Ward (Mary), Keith Ward (Shannon), Dennis Baker, Jeff Baker (Stacy), Candice Athey (Donald), De Standridge (Rocky), Lynn Ward, Joseph Abney, Amanda Kohler (Walt), Clint Troutman (Genivieve) and Casey Troutman; 13 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; three sisters, Billie Knight, Jean Alexander, Ginger Washeck, two brothers, Ken Owens and Ray Owens.
