Mrs. Joyce Nell Snow Govan, a resident of Clio, received a visit from one of God’s Angels Tuesday morning, July 20, 2021 and gave her “Wings” at the age of 94.  The Heavenly Father has kept her in His arms for a very long time.


Funeral services for Mrs. Govan will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, July 24, 2021, in the Barbour County Intermediate School Gymnasium with Reverend Dwight Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Peter A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Friday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.  The family has asked that face covering and all COVID guidelines be observed.


Mrs. Govan was born March 21, 1927 in Clio, Alabama to the late Choice Snow and Victoria Williams. She attended the Dale County School System and married James Edward Govan on March 12, 1946. This union was blessed with twelve beautiful children, Emily Joyce, Carolyn Victoria, Mamie Lee, Charles James, Elizabeth, Randy, Joyce Ann, Jane Snow, Sandra Jean, Angela Rochelle Rene’, Vincent Edward and Yolanda Contrina. Mrs. Govan was active, and the oldest member of Saint Peter A.M.E. Church. Early on in her walk with God, she served with the Women’ Missionary Society, and the Lay Organization, and attended Sunday School as well. Regularly attended the Clio Senior Citizens Group.


Those who will cherish her memory: her children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ann Glanton; daughter-in-law, Norma Lightner-Govan; sons-in-law, Tellis R. Hill, Louie Walker Jr. and Matthew White; nieces, nephews, Lela W. Baker; cousins, Nakita McCray, and her friends.
