Mrs. Juanita P. Newell of Samson passed away at Healthmark Regional Medical Center on February 24, 2012.  She was 85.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Barnes officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. 

 Mrs. Newell was born in Geneva Co., AL on October 1, 1926 to the late Warsaw and Flora Jennings Pridgen.   She was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James R. Newell; and grandson, Billy Joe Johnson.

 She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Johnson (Sherman); son, Terry Newell (Reba), all of Samson; four grandchildren, Sharon Gaubert (Nolan) of Pensacola, FL, Susan May (Earl) of Tallahassee, FL, Jason Newell (Dora) of Montevallo, AL and Terra Mack (Justin) of Samson; six great grandchildren, Lauren and Kristen Gaubert of Pensacola, Casey and Abby May of Tallahassee, Neil and Peyton Mack of Samson; and her brother, Hamp Pridgen (Georgia) of Samson.
