Addie Lois Stanwaity of Newton passed away Friday, May 27, 2022 at the age of 96.

Lois was born on December 19, 1925, in Bellwood, Alabama to the late William J. Byrd and Luria A. Newsome Byrd.  She graduated from Wicksburg High School where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. Lois retired from GTE during which time she moved off to start an adventurous life and family in Wyoming with her loving husband, Paul. 

Lois was a woman of many talents. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother in her own special way. Lois was VICE President, and then President, of the Wiregrass Duplicate Bridge Club for many years, was a Life Master in Bridge. Her hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening and was considered to have a green thumb, an excellent cook and won many awards for her recipes. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist church community where she enjoyed singing in the choir with her husband, Paul. Lois was also published in the paper many times for her work. She was also a big part of her grandchildren's upbringing to include sports games, church attendance, and piano lessons.

In her final years, she was tirelessly cared for around the clock by her loving granddaughter, Diane Reynolds. The family would like to thank Diane for her selfless actions in regard to making sure our Granny was cared for well. We all know it was a never ending, thankless, job.

In addition to her parents, Lois in preceded in death by her husband, Paul Stanwaity; sons, Donald Stanwaity and David Stanwaity; daughter, Jeannie Cumbie; and 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Survivors include granddaughters, Diane Reynolds (Laymond), Candice Johnson (Chad), Elizabeth Rowan (John), and Stacee Barron (Brent); grandsons, David Cumbie (Amanda), Harley Auringer, and Randall Cumbie; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sister, Evelyn Stanphill; and special friends, Cletus and Barbara Faulk.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church in Newton, with burial to follow immediately after at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior at Bethel Baptist Church.
