Loraine B. Sewell, 94, of Cottonwood, Alabama, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Extendicare Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held  Friday, October 21, 2011, 10 a.m. at Mt. Enon Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama with Reverend Jerry Hood, Reverend Dr. Jerry Windsor and Reverend Coley Holloway  officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Mt. Enon Baptist church Building Fund, 3167 Iris Road, Dothan, AL 36301.

“Mrs. Loraine” or “Granny Sewell”, as most people knew her, was born January 30, 1917. She was married to her loving husband, Leon Sewell, for sixty-five years until his death on august 31, 1997. She was a faithful member of Mount Enon Baptist Church for the past 80 years and active in the Loraine Sewell WMU. Most of her life was spent working with her husband, caring for her family, cooking, quilting and working in her yard. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends at the Cottonwood Senior Center.

Mrs. Sewell is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Anne Dawsey and Marie (Roy) McAnulty; one son and daughter-in-law, David (Janice) Sewell, all of Cottonwood; seven grandchildren, Stanley (Wendy) Dawsey, Pansey, Tammy (Eric) Carlson, Dothan, Steve (Lisa) McAnulty, Boone, NC, Mike (Susan) McAnulty, Dothan, Jan (Brett) Gerber, Cottonwood, Leigh Sewell, Orlando, FL, Jennifer (James) Gardner, Troy, Alisa (Greg) Rowland, Cowarts; eleven great-grandchildren, Geoffrey McAnulty, Kaitlyn McAnulty, Mason Shirah, Drew, Natalie and Clay Carlson, Olivia McAnulty, Madison McArdle, Mallory, Colby and Carly Dawsey; one brother, Sam (Laney) Bragg, Jr., Eagle Lake, FL; three sisters, Lizzy (Billy) Roberson, Bristol, FL, Minnie Jones and Lucy Barrentine, both of Marianna, FL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mary Bragg; five brothers, Odell Bragg, John L. Bragg, Bea Bragg, Charlie Bragg and Billy Bragg.

Pallbearers will be, Mike McAnulty, Steve McAnulty, Stanley Dawsey, Geoffrey McAnulty, Mason Shirah, Brett Gerber, Eric Carlson and Johnny Love.
