Mrs. Louise Drinkwater Sims, 94, a lifelong resident of Ashford, Alabama passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, surrounded by her family.


The family will receive friends at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Friday March 31, 2023 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2 PM. Interment will follow in the Cottonwood City Cemetery. The Reverend Terry Drinkwater and Dr. Paul Hill will be officiating.


She was born December 10, 1928 to the late Colton and Mary Anne Anglin Drinkwater. After she married her husband, Maxwell Sims, she became a lifelong homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. Her life’s joy was her children, her garden, and cooking.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell Sims; her parents, Colton Drinkwater and Mary Anne Anglin Drinkwater; her sisters, Agnes Drinkwater, Edna Drinkwater, Miriam Gamble and Clide Drinkwater; her brothers, William Drinkwater, Otis Drinkwater, Cubert Drinkwater, Thurman Drinkwater, Tommy Drinkwater; and son-in-law, Foy Shelley.


Louise is survived by her daughter, Judy Shelley, Ashford; her son, Jimmy (Carol) Sims, Ashford; her grandchildren, Daniel (Krista) Shelley, Headland, Samuel (Camille) Shelley, New Jersey, Reverend Nathan (Catherine) Sims, Enterprise, Krystal (Steve) Fowler, Dothan, Heather Dills, Ashford, one adopted granddaughter, Michelle (Joe) Herring, Dothan; her sister, Betty (M. O.) Anderson, Dothan; brother-in-law, Melvin (Merlene) Sims, Georgia; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Daniel Shelley, Samuel Shelley, Kaleb Shelley, Jackson Herring, Joe Herring, Dewayne Anderson, Dennis Gamble, and Kenneth Drinkwater.


The family would like to extend their appreciation to her caregiver Kathy Harden and two special ladies from Covenant Hospice, Taylor and Janie.


The family will also receive friends at the home of her son, 565 Jimmy Sims Road, Ashford, AL.
