Madelyn Harrell Lawrence, a resident of Dothan, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her family and friends. She was 76.


Funeral services for Mrs. Lawrence will be held at 11 AM Tuesday October 23, 2012 at Rehobeth Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Free officiating. Burial will follow in Big Creek UMC cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to: Rehobeth Baptist Church Building Fund, 4444 Co. Rd. 59, Dothan, AL 36301.


Mrs. Lawrence was born August 14, 1936 to Harvey Clifton and Othell Brackin Harrell. She was born in Ashford and moved to Campbellton, Florida at an early age. She was in the 1954 graduating class of Graceville High School and attended Riley Business College. Mrs. Lawrence began her career as a Payroll Clerk at Hedstrom Union.  She served as an Administrative Assistant at Rehobeth Baptist Church for 40 years until her retirement in December of 2010. She was also an active member of Rehobeth Baptist having served in many areas there during her life. Mrs. Lawrence enjoyed family times and travelling.


Mrs. Lawrence is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lawrence and a daughter, Patti Lynn Lawrence.


Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Joseph Montgomery, Rehobeth; two grandchildren, Caleb Montgomery, Kimberly Gorland and her husband, Michael; four sisters, Norma Davis and husband, Leon, Pelham, GA, Oma Lou Sasser and husband, Ralph, Nakina, NC, Betty Longgrear, Panama City, FL, Cynthia Hicks and husband, Ronnie, Atlanta, GA; brother Harvey Rae Harrell and wife, Jan, Campbellton, FL; daughter of the heart, Glenda Free and husband, Travis, Dothan; sister in law, Dale Godwin and husband, David, Dothan, brother in law, Ronnie Lawrence and wife, Becky, Dothan; nieces and nephews, Julia Kent (Lee), Shannon Wallace (Scott), Jason Hicks, (Loraine), Tonya Wyndham (Ryan), Scott Harrell (Sonja), Chris Harrell (Stephanie), Brenda Rudolph (Dennis), Cliff Rudolph, Clay Rudolph (Jeri), Duane Godwin (Cecilia), Delane Davis, Darenee Hartigan (Eric), RJ Lawrence, Candice Lawrence, Donny Whatley (Seydi); many great nieces, nephews and special friends.


Serving as pallbearers will be: Lee Kent, Michael Gorland, Jason Hicks, Chris Harrell, Scott Harrell, Duane Godwin, Justin Godwin and James Harrell.


The family wishes to thank LaKeisha Simmons, the staff of Extendicare Rehab, Covenant Hospice and Home Instead for their care and support during her brief illness.


Madelyn will be remembered for her generous, compassionate and fun spirit. Serving both her family and church family was the passion of her heart. She will be truly missed by those she has touched in her lifetime.
