Obituary: Mrs. Margaret Jean Byrd

 

Mrs. Margaret Jean Byrd went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 91. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 19, 2023 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am and continuing until service time.  

Mrs. Byrd was born March 5, 1932 in Geneva County to the late T.B. and Molly Sorrells Holloway. Margaret was a homemaker and caregiver who loved her family and will be dearly missed.  She enjoyed cooking, tending her flower gardens, and baking fig tarts with her grandchildren. She was a woman of faith and member of Union Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, her husband Frank J. Byrd, daughter Lynda Byrd; and two sons; James Byrd and Jerry Byrd; brother, Joe Holloway, all preceded her in death.

 Survivors include her children, Margie Morgan (Larry), Carolyn Anderson, Terry Byrd, several 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren nieces’ nephews and other extended family and friends; her little dog Sadie. 

Serving as pallbearers will be: Jesse Ussery, Christian Ussery, Cody Knight, Travis Anderson, Michael Morgan and Allen Morgan.
