Mrs. Mary Catherine Thurston Thames of Goat Hill Road, Samson, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 02, 2022.  She was 82.


 Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 06, 2022, in the Liberty Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Earles and Rev. Dell Floyd officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.


 Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Gary Thames, 703 Goat Hill Road, Samson, Alabama 36477.


 Catherine was born May 23, 1939 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Jesse Darius and Rencie Veda Aycock Thurston. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was widely known as one of the finest southern cooks in the community and truly enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Catherine possessed an humble, giving, loving and devoted spirit. For many years, she willingly gave of herself to care for people through sickness, hard times and provide comfort for anyone in need of anything. She was a true servant of Christ and lived it every day to the best of her ability. She was a lifelong member of the Liberty Chapel Baptist Church family. 


 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Max Thames; two sisters, Carolyn Stephens and Pauline Rhodes.


 Catherine is survived by one daughter, Deborah McQueen (Steve) of Samson; four grandchildren: Clint Hillman (Shannon) of Dothan, Morgan Hillman of Samson, Carly Hillman of Ludowici, GA and Caleb Massey of Anchorage, AK, four great grandchildren, Maverick and Grayson Hillman, Parker Boswell and Arabella Burton; one sister, Patricia Floyd (Dell) and one brother, John Thurston (Jeanette) all of Samson, AL; a number of special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
