Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bowers Whitten, age 87, a resident of Dothan died early Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Westside Terrace following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Tim Willis officiating and Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1231 Fortner Street, Dothan, AL  36301.  The family will be receiving friends at the cemetery following the services.

Mrs. Whitten was born on November 29, 1926 in Samson.  She was the daughter of W. Edie Bowers and Mary Aplin Bowers.  Mrs. Whitten was a graduate of Samson High School and was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.  She retired from Sears after 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years, Curtis David Whitten, Jr. and eleven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include:  two daughters, Belinda Jeffcoat (Dwight), Dothan; Jackie Holley (Charles), Dothan; son, Larry Eugene Whitten, Dothan; 6 grandchildren, Tanya Woodham (Derek), Staci Whatley (Trip), Tara Roney (Andrew), Brent Whitten (Brooke), Melissa Evans (Brandon) and April Whitten; 15 great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be:  Grandsons-in-law, Trip Whatley, Derek Woodham, Andrew Roney, Brandon Evans and great=grandsons, Michael Evans, John Garner Cole, Ben Woodham and Brooks Roney.
