Mrs. Mary Lillian Borland of Pinckard, Alabama passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 1, 2021 with loving family by her side. She was 88 years old.


A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Chris Woodall officiating and Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. Pallbearers will include her nephews, David Goolsby, Greg Goolsby, Jeff Goolsby, Blake Goolsby, Alex Sanders and Comer Borland. Honorary Pallbearers are her caregivers from Southern Care Hospice. Visitation will immediately follow after the service at the graveside. Masks and social distancing will be required to attend these events.


 


Lillian was born on July 31, 1932 to the late J.B. and Grace Beckham Goolsby in Ozark, Alabama. In her 20s, she worked at Hedstrom. She stayed at home to raise her young children and then, began working at the Fort Rucker Primary School in the Library. She continued to work there for 25 years at which time she retired. Subsequently, she was a substitute teacher for the Midland City Elementary School for many years. She worked at the Pinckard Post Office part time until she finally fully retired at 80 years of age. She served as a member and past President of the PTA at Pinckard Elementary School and South Dale Middle School.   Lillian was a member of Pinckard Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 60 years until age 82. She also served on the Pinckard Town Council. She was a dedicated, loving mother who never met a stranger and always made others feel welcome in her home.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Borland, an infant son, and her brother Harold Goolsby. She is survived by her children, Bobby Borland, Beth Borland Ivey (Mark), and Teresa Borland Dean, her brothers Russell Goolsby (Jean), Eugene Goolsby (Charlene), a sister-in-law Patsy Goolsby, and her grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Borland, Will Borland (Jennie), Elliot Dean (McKenzie), Bradley Dean (Jasmine), Sara Ivey, and Grace Ivey Smith (Preston), three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
