Mrs. Mary Delene (Payton) Matson, age 83, of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021.
Mary was born February 3, 1938 in Clanton, Alabama. She had two older sisters and one younger brother. She graduated from Talladega High School in 1956 with honors was a member of several high school clubs. She married Frank Matson upon graduating, and they were married until his death in 2015. Together they raised two children, a son, Danny Frank and a daughter, Amanda Reneau. Mary accepted Christ at age twelve and she lived a strong Christian life. Mary sang in the choir and served as a children’s Sunday School teacher and church secretary for many years at First Baptist Church, Ashford, Alabama where she was a member from 1972 to her death.
Mary is survived by her younger brother, Richard Hayes; her grandson, Kindal Lovell; her daughter, Amanda Reneau Lovell and son-in-law, Rick Lovell. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her son, Danny, and her infant great-grandson, Payton.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, April 16, 2021 at Ashford City Cemetery with Reverend Mike Grimes officiating.
