Maude Evelyn Smith Metcalf, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Wesley Manor. She was 102.


Graveside services for Mrs. Metcalf will be held at 11 AM Friday, October 28, 2011 at Memory Hill cemetery with   Mark Turner and Jim Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home.


Mrs. Metcalf, known as Mama Metcalf to her family and friends, was born April 22, 1909 in Pike County, Alabama to the late John E. and Laura Annie Vinson Smith. She grew up in the Pike County area and lived in Houston and Geneva counties. Mama Metcalf was an accomplished seamstress, gardener, teller of stories from her youth and was a member of Hartford Church of Christ.


Mama Metcalf is preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Metcalf, children, Kenneth Metcalf and Barbara M. Harden.


Survivors include her children, Bascom C. Metcalf (Myra), Dothan, Elizabeth M. Raines,  Slocomb; son in law, Clifford Harden, Mt. Dora, FL; eight grandchildren, Cam Metcalf (Beth), Jeff Metcalf (Jan), Dena Metcalf Malugen (Joe), all of Dothan, Julia Raines Freeman, Auburn, Philip Raines (Donna), Woodstock, GA, Scott Raines (Michelle), Asheville, NC, Allen Harden (Judi) Key West, FL, Steve Harden, Eustis, FL; 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
