Mildred McGilvray Barnes, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2012.


 


Memorial services celebrating the life of Mildred McGilvray Barnes will be held at 2:30  P.M. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Heritage Baptist Church with Reverend Vann Clack of Heritage Baptist Church officiating of where she was a charter member.


 


The family will be receiving friends at the church from 1 to 2:30 P.M. Thursday, March 1, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Heritage Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.


 


Mildred was born in Henry County, Alabama on August 4, 1922, to Martin and Bertha Maddox McGilvray. Mildred enjoyed her many years working at the Ford Motor Company, as well as being active in her church; her greatest joy was her family.


 


Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Ray Barnes, granddaughter, Kristen Barnes, her parents, and her brother, Will McGilvray, half-brothers, Marvin and Carl Holmes, and half-sister, Alma Nowell.


 


She is survived by her sons, Ben Ray Barnes, Jr., and his wife, Barbara and Marty Barnes and his wife, Pam, and grandsons, Garrett, Wesley, Bradley, Adam and Andrew Barnes. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Flora Guy and brother, Martin Byrd McGilvray and his wife, June, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
